This can make the calculation reports extra long with “blank” pages or showing just a few factors on the second page from the calculations when there is room to spare on the first page. A simple formatting issue. I currently go through and delete the second page to save some paper but it would be nice to not have to do that for every project.
Thanks!
Hi Max,
Thank you for your feedback! I can imagine how frustrating that must be. This is a bug on our end, and I’ve already filed a ticket to address it.
Quick question for you, I noticed the screenshot you sent is from our Wood Beam ASD calculator. Are you experiencing the same issue with any other calculators?
I have noticed it on most of the modules I use - wood, steel, footings, etc.
Adding to the discussion…
This formatting problem is persisting and is frankly quite frustrating, but I did find a workaround for the interim:
- Create the original pdf by printing to A4 paper instead of letter size. The A4 version seems to always fit on a single page when/as intended.
- Open the pdf with Revu (other programs may or may not also work).
- Print to a letter-sized pdf from within Revu to Microsoft Print to pdf or similar method.
- Success.
I generally just go through and delete the “blank” pages from the exported file using Bluebeam. Occasionally there is some useful information on those pages so that is not a perfect fix.
Agreed, I just typically get one line of actual calculations on the 2nd page so deleting hasn’t worked out for me.
Is anyone close to fixing this simple print error?
I have come to the conclusion that it typically happens when beams are set to “top braced” but doesn’t happen when the member is “top and bottom braced”. Clear Calcs is trying to print too much information related to the negative bending region. Perhaps this can be simplified a bit? I doubt anyone reading the printout really cares too much about seeing all those duration factors anyway.
Start here: Does the duration factor really need to be shown three times?
Hello guys @WilsonEngineers and @MaxStability
I’m going to hide the CD and CL factors from the one page summary, this would solve this. It’s going to be live pretty soon!
I will let you know

This printing issue is *still* not fixed from what I see.
Hi @WilsonEngineers
Thanks for sharing. We actually did make the change back on Nov 28th for our US steel and wood beam calculators (chose to hide the factors you suggested). May I ask if this is on a newer project (potentially your calculator needs an upgrade? You can learn how to do so here: How to Force Update a Project - Calcs.com Documentation )
Beyond that, this might have to do with your load diagram showing lots of information. Our load diagrams are dynamic but the print outs are not. We select what we believe to be important and try to keep space for the diagrams to grow.
And the printing issue showed up again today with a simple two-span wood beam…
Duration factors are still being listed multiple times, though that was listed as something that might be eliminated to help alleviate this problem. And yes, I get that they can be different for different load cases. But frankly, no one that is reviewing the printed calculation cares or even knows enough to check these. Hiding duration factors in the output remains an easy way to fix this printing issue. That’s just my suggestion.
Hi @WilsonEngineers
We did hide those duration factors that you suggested. Have you updated this for a new project? May I ask what version of the calculator you are on? We’ve made the fix in version 200 of the wood beam ASD calculator.
I stand corrected, that particular beam calc is version 199. Clearcalcs used to recommend updates to older calcs but now I don’t see that option. I just figured they were in the cloud and therefore they were automatically the latest version.
So case closed about the printing issue, thank you.
