What’s New?
We’ve introduced support for Tornado Load Calculations directly within the Wind Load Calculator under the IBC 2024 standard.
How to Enable Tornado Loads
-
Open Project Defaults
- Under IBC Code Edition, select IBC 2024.
- Set the Risk Category to III or IV.
- New Section: Site Parameters for Tornado
- Scroll down to find a new section labeled Site Parameters – Tornado.
- Set the option “Tornado-Prone Region” to Yes if your project is located in a tornado-prone region. You can check this using the ASCE Hazard Tool.
- Enter the design tornado wind speed.
After this, the calculator will determine whether it is necessary to consider tornado loads.
Add the Wind Load Calculation
-
Click “Add New Calculation”.
-
Search and select Wind Loads.
-
Once added, scroll down to see:
-
A dedicated Tornado Loads section.
-
Tornado wind pressures included in the Summary section.
-
Need Custom Parameters?
If you need to override the default tornado settings:
- Open the Wind Load calculation.
- Click “Override project defaults”.
- Adjust values as needed.
That’s It!
With just a few clicks, you can incorporate tornado loads into your wind design workflow. As always, reach out if you have questions or feedback.
